Downton Abbey's double win at BAFTA TV Craft Awards

'Downton Abbey' and 'Human Planet' led the way at the BAFTA Television Craft Awards last night (08.05.11).

The ITV1 period drama - which documents the running of a huge country mansion in the early 20th century - and the BBC One series picked up two accolades each at the prestigious ceremony at London's The Brewery venue, which celebrates the behind-the-camera skills involved in television production.

'Downton Abbey' won best fiction director and an award for sound while 'Human Planet' was recognised in the categories for factual editing and factual photography.

The special award went to BBC Two's 'Springwatch' for its "outstanding creative and technical teamwork" while 'Coronation Street' director Tony Prescott picked up the multi-camera director award for his work on the show's 50th anniversary hour-long live episode.

E4 show 'Misfits' picked up the gong for best production design while Channel 4's 'This Is England' won the best make-up and hair prize.

Other winners at the awards included Channel 4 four-parter 'Any Human Heart' - starring Matthew Macfadyen and Jim Broadbent - BBC One's 'Merlin', ITV1's 'The Cube' and new BBC Two romantic drama 'Worried About the Boy', depicting the early days of Culture Club.
