Misfits leads BAFTA nominations

Doctor Who star Matt Smith is nominated in the Leading Actor category

(BANG) -

'Misfits' is leading this year's TV BAFTA nominations with the potential to scoop four awards.

The E4 teen drama is up for Best Drama and New Media Title - which applauds the best websites and digital TV shows of the year - while Robert Sheehan and Lauren Socha, who play Nathan Young and Kelly Bailey, are nominated in the Supporting Actor and Actress categories.

Meanwhile, the respective leading men of 'Sherlock' and 'Doctor Who' - Benedict Cumberbatch and Matt Smith - will battle it out in the Leading Actor category, joined by 'Any Human Heart' star Jim Broadbent and Eric and Ernie's Daniel Rigby.

Surprisingly, Jessie Wallace - who is known for portraying bolshie barmaid Kat Moon in 'EastEnders' - received a nod in the Supporting Actress category for her work on the cobbles of 'Coronation Street', rather than Albert Square.

The star has received her first-ever TV BAFTA nomination for her role as 'Corrie' legend Pat Phoenix in BBC docudrama 'The Road to Coronation Street'.

However, 'EastEnders' hasn't missed out in the nominations, and will face 'Coronation Street', 'Waterloo Road' and Casualty' in the Continuing Drama category after having scooped the prestigious prize six times in recent years.

Elsewhere, in the Entertainment category, 'The X Factor' faces 'Have I Got News For You', 'The Cube' and 'The Graham Norton Show'.

The Philips British Academy Television Awards will take place on May 22.
